As part of the EXPAND-EV project, Ana Đurić from Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS) completed a one-month secondment (22 June–21 July) at the Proteomic Core Facility, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

During her time at NKUA, Ana received hands-on training in key stages of proteomic analysis from biological sample preparation to protein identification. She worked closely with Maria Voumvouraki, Aspasia Dimitriadou, and Paraskevi Karousi and was mentored by Julie Courraud, Guillaume Medard, and Makis Zoidakis.

The training covered:

  • Sample preparation

  • Protein separation & digestion

  • Peptide separation

  • Mass spectrometry analysis

  • Data interpretation

These steps are essential for the identification and quantification of proteins in EVs isolated from biological samples. The EVs were isolated from pleural effusions of patients with lung cancer by Miodrag Vuković from IORS.
