As part of the EXPAND-EV project, Evangelos Korakidis from Hellenic Pasteur Institute (HPI) spent a month at partner Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) to deepen his expertise in EV biology. His training focused on producing, isolating, and purifying EVs from engineered liver cell lines designed to release fluorescent vesicles.

To achieve this, he applied several EV isolation techniques, including tangential flow filtration, size-exclusion chromatography, ultracentrifugation, and preliminary nanobody-based capture methods. These approaches enabled more refined analysis and purification of EVs, which are increasingly important in biomedical research.

Evangelos also gained hands-on experience in producing and purifying nanobodies in bacterial systems, using affinity chromatography. These nanobodies are key tools for selective EV capture and hold potential in applications like biomarker discovery and drug delivery.

This training provided Evangelos with valuable technical skills and insights into the growing field of EV research, supporting future innovations in diagnostics and therapeutics.
