Building collaboration and expertise in Barcelona

During his secondment at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona, Filip Kliček gained valuable hands-on experience working with cancer cell models and extracellular vesicles (EVs). The main aim was to prepare high-quality cell and EV samples for further N-glycomics analysis at Genos.

Together with the CB-DDT group, Filip took part in cell culture work, EV preparation, sample characterisation and quantification. Several sets of samples were successfully prepared and sent to Genos, supporting future research on the differences between cancer cells and the EVs they release.

The secondment also offered an opportunity to exchange knowledge, take part in laboratory and group discussions, and explore future ways of integrating glycomics into EV research. It strengthened the collaboration between VHIR and Genos and laid the foundation for further joint activities within the EXPAND-EV project.

Beyond the scientific work, the secondment was a great professional and personal experience. It was a pleasure to work with the welcoming VHIR team and to spend time in Barcelona, a city that made this collaboration especially memorable.
