As part of the EXPAND-EV project, our partner National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) organized a scientific webinar on “Proteomics: Past, Present, Future”, presented by Prof. Makis Zoidakis.

The session offered participants an insightful journey through the evolution of proteomics, from its early days of protein separation and identification to the cutting-edge technologies shaping today’s research. Prof. Zoidakis highlighted the major breakthroughs that transformed the field, including the transition from gel-based methods to mass spectrometry, advances in data acquisition, and the development of tools enabling large-scale protein analysis.

Beyond tracing this fascinating history, the webinar also looked ahead to the future of proteomics, showcasing innovative approaches such as spatial proteomics, intact protein analysis, and emerging alternatives like nanopore sequencing. These developments promise to open new horizons in our ability to study proteins with greater detail and accuracy, with broad applications across biology, medicine, and biotechnology.
